Uneedit Supplies

August 2011

Uneedit Supplies has been a family owned business since 1934. They are a major supplier of first aid kits and first aid training to businesses across Australia. Now in the hands of a third generation of family owners, the company employs 38 staff across Australia. Their head office and warehouse is in Sydney with sales branches in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Newcastle.
Uneedit Supplies has been a customer of Hands-on Systems since 1999 and we are their infrastructure partner of choice. Hands-on Systems engages with Uneedit Supplies regularly for infrastructure maintenance and advice on their IT strategy.
Uneedit Supplies’ General Manager, Stuart McClelland was interviewed on his experience with Hands-on Systems.

What were the business issues Uneedit Supplies was experiencing before Hands-on Systems became your infrastructure provider?

Uneedit Supplies were suffering from hardware unreliability and support issues. Their current small business server was not up to their increasing demands and network issues were impacting their daily routine.

Their previous support company was struggling to service their needs. Lengthy resolutions became the norm which created a lot of down time.

“Even printing would cause the network to stop working until the job had finished,” says Stuart. “There were times when there would be nothing that the staff could do but sit and wait. Now all issues are resolved promptly. I have one point of contact. One email, or one phone call, and it is handled. It doesn’t matter who I speak with, it is always followed up.”

Security was also an issue, says Stuart, with Uneedit Supplies’ website being hacked and intruders using their internet connection. “Hands-on Systems sorted this out for us and we have not encountered these problems since.”

What are the benefits Uneedit Supplies have seen since having Hands-on Systems implement your infrastructure solution?

Hands-on Systems’ commitment to providing each client with efficient service has meant that Uneedit Supplies now has the reliable support provider that they were after. “We didn’t have a go to company that we could rely on to help us in an urgent situation,” explains Stuart. “Hands-on Systems has become that.”

Stuart found that Uneedit Supplies had previously outlaid a lot of money for hardware that although cheaper, would not fulfil their needs. “Hands-on Systems gets it right the first time which means that it’s more economical in the long run.”

Since using Hands-on Systems for infrastructure maintenance, Uneedit Supplies’ network security has improved with no additional breaches reported “Our whole infrastructure implementation is monitored,” says Stuart. “That’s what I like. If I forget to back up the system one day I’ll get a phone call to remind me every time.”

What are your next steps for improving your infrastructure solutions?

Uneedit Supplies are continuing to improve their IT infrastructure in accordance with their Hands-on Systems’ Strategic IT Plan. Having just finished virtualising all their production servers, Uneedit Supplies’ are working with Hands-on Systems to explore opportunities in the cloud.

Having recently engaged Hands-on Systems to implement the latest version of SharePoint Server, Uneedit Supplies has started developing the site using it not just as their intranet, but for document management, and event planning.

Stuart says “the next infrastructure project will be to deploy mobile devices for their 8-12 sales representatives that are out of the office and on the road.” This will allow them to have access to critical information at all times and allow them to place orders anywhere, anytime.

How would you describe the interaction between yourself and Hands-on Systems’ staff that you have direct contact with?

Having engineers on hand to assist you with your requirements is the peace of mind Stuart needs. “I always get the follow through, no matter who I speak with. I have a great relationship with everyone at Hands-on Systems.”

Hands-on Systems is committed to forging great relationships between our customers and their assigned engineers and account managers. This ensures that our infrastructure clients have people they can contact for any advice or help.

Why did you choose Hands-on Systems as a solution provider?

Uneedit Supplies did not have a reliable support provider back in 1999 and Hands-on Systems was referred to their situation. After meeting with one of our account managers and contacting customer references, Stuart felt that Hands-on Systems could do the job. “We needed a provider that knew what they were doing. After seeing that they had done it before we felt comfortable that they could help us. They have delivered.”

Stuart was impressed with Hands-on Systems’ commitment to providing a well stepped out project plan that is followed through with. “After seeing this plan, I felt comfortable passing on responsibilities to the staff at Hands-on Systems.”

Would you recommend Hands-on Systems as an infrastructure partner/provider?

“I have no hesitation in recommending Hands-on Systems for any part of their IT requirements. The infrastructure solution we have in place I can’t fault.”
